Are we in it for the long haul?

As most of you know, I am a sports fan and an admirer of gifted athletes. It was fun being a Lumberjack fan this past fall and watching them in person playing and winning the state title. It was also a wonderful experience to watch how they did it, playing almost a perfect game. Yet the crowning joy was how the Lumberjacks handled their victory following the game. I would not have blamed them at all if they had not had a long exuberant celebration. But instead, they honored their school and each of us by handling their victory respect, dignity and humility—respecting and honoring their opposing team. Victory and achievement is a wonderful and joyful accomplishment. But, much more important is how we handle our victories and achievements in life. Jesus has set us the wonderful example that we are to be humble in all things. I give great thanks to Coach Bo Hembree and his coaching staff for teaching our players this wonderful lesson that will stay with the players the rest of their lives, and will help these boys grow into fine young men as they are already on their way.
